Piriápolis is a small town with Mediterranean-style charm. It is set around a curving bay. Maldonado is the capital of Maldonado Department of Uruguay. Piriápolis is the seventh most populated city of the country and is named after the city founder, Dr. Francisco Piria. His residence in town was a castle known as Castillo de Piria, which today is a museum.
